Waxing Tips
With swimsuit weather approaching, we have been inundated
with phone calls for Brazilian Waxing. Alarmingly, women are coming to
us with horror stories of being ripped raw from salons using questionable
methods. A bride to be recently told us of her raw skin and bruises which
took weeks to heal. Suitably horrified, we compiled our check list to
safe guard you from any such disaster!
- The bed set up consists of fresh linen, a disposable
sheet covering entire bed including the pillow area, a clean towel for
discretion and disposable baby wipes.
- When client arrives ask them to remove pants/skirt and
underwear, lay on the bed and cover themselves with a towel.
- Leave the room while the client is doing this and wash
your hands.
- Knock on door first before entering the room.
- Apply gloves.
- Fold towel half way across the area to be waxed and
ask the client to bend their leg up and out.
- Wipe over the area with a cotton pad and pre wax solution.
- TEST WAX TEMPERATURE on wrist! A seasoned waxer will
be able to tell the temperature of the wax by it's consistency but should
still check it every time!
- Apply wax going against the hair growth using a disposable
wooden spatula or tongue depressor.
- Remove when the wax is set while holding the skin taut.
- Press firmly after removing the wax to release the pain.
- Repeat process until all the hair is removed.
- Tweeze out any stray hairs that may be left behind using
sterile, stainless steel tweezers.
- Apply after wax solution with a cotton pad to the waxed
area.
- Brazilian waxes should NOT be performed using strip
wax! Strip wax is used for waxing legs and less sensitive areas. It
is a cheap alternative to purchasing Brazilian specific wax.
- Please ensure everything your waxer is using is DISPOSABLE!
They should not be reusing anything including spatulas, bed sheets,
gloves, tweezers or cotton pads.
- Ask your waxer what type of wax they use for Brazilian
waxing and if it is good quality. The perfect wax is one that only adheres
to the hair and not to the skin.
- Ask your waxer/salon if they are qualified.
- Ask around your friends for any feedback on salons they
may have visited.
- A Brazilian wax should NOT leave you;
· burnt
· bleeding
· bruised
· with missing skin
