WORLD SHOW - GOOD vs EVIL
We worked very closely with Harold Samu from World
who oversees hair, makeup and this year nails. We wanted to create individual
nails for 25 models to reflect the influence of the clothing, hair and
make-up. At first we thought, "lets do Gaga style talons"....
then we decided, "it's already been done so lets create unique WORLD
nails". And that is what we did! I travelled to Sydney to meet with
Harold to look through garment photographs, we drew a few sketches and
my team then mocked together the samples. We met again in Auckland, this
time while viewing the storyboards for the hair, makeup and clothing.
Here, with our huge Minx portfolio and vast knowledge of polish colours
the 25 nail designs for the WORLD show were born.
We pre made 18 nails per model which equalled 450
tips and Minxed, filed and polished them to perfection over four long
nights. On the day of the show we had a 12 hour call time and we glued
the tips to the models nails then painted their toes to match. It took
eight hours! The WORLD team were fantastic to work alongside and we look
forward to having a long relationship with them.

Minx Nails called "Star
of Dawn". This was chosen particularly because the yellow tip
would match with her yellow belt.
|
As left but now with completed hair and makeup.

This sequence of models
had an oval length applied then the nails were painted in Dior Masai
Red. Many reds were poured over and considered!

This model was dubbed
one of the Doll Faces. We couldn't source our desired Chanel shade
in time so unfortunately had to use a Revlon Blue which was technically
horrific yet gave the perfect shade of baby blue.
|
Bianca (one the the NZNTM
finalists) kept calm on the day listening to her tunes! She featured
in the opening line-up which was a space theme. We added length
and used Blue Chrome and Silver Lightning Minx nails to achieve
that high shine not obtainable by using polish.
|
We added length and used
Minx Nails in a Metallic Snake print. The high shine silver and
gold contrasted perfectly with the lighting on the catwalk.

We added length and the colour used was Dior Masai

This is Bridgette who won NZNTM.
We used Minx nails in "Metallic Dots" and added length.

TRELISE COOPER
The look was inspired by 1940s glamour and Dita Von Teese.
We opted for a cuticle white moon as well as a very round white tip. We
added extreme length which looked out of place backstage but perfect on
the catwalk. We prepared 280 tips using CND Shellac!
MisteR
Ra and Mickey were truly the friendliest designers to work
with! I cheekily suggested to Mickey that we paint the male models in
their show as no-one had done so yet and was delighted when she agreed!
We used bold primary tones which contrasted against each other nicely
and complimented the clothing beautifully.
JIMMY D
We used Minx nails in Silver Chrome and also added length.
Many models have tiny little nails so the added length ensured the chrome
would stand out well.
COOP
They opted for a nude finish so we used OPI Passion.

BLAKLUXE
We added length, used Minx in black chrome, placed white
dotted Minx over the top then painted the upside down hour glass in "JAZZ"
by ESSIE.
REDBULL NZ
We ordered customised MINX nails from the USA specially
for the Red Bull girls to wear while handing out drinks at NZFW11.
AMBER/PETRINA
Amber from Verdo Nails and Petrina
from Magic Tan and Beauty
We even encouraged the public to
be a little daring this year at NZFW and this was followed up by some
people opting for a Minx design on their ring finger or pinky!
You can see in one of the staff
photos the customised minx Nails made specially for NZFW featuring the
NZFW logo.
This was the second year we were the NZFW Official
Nail Gurus and next year we expect to be involved yet again.
